Because there has been so much snow on the ground I figured I would post some info and directions about St. Louis’ most popular sledding destination, Art Hill.

Art Hill is located in Forest Park right next to the Art Museum, hence the name.  On any day that there is a enough snow for sled or saucer to glide you will find dozens of people enjoying Art Hill at any time of the day or night.  Art Hill wraps around a lake in front of the Art Museum which keeps it from feeling to crowded despite the large number of people.  The parks department lays bails of hay at the bottom of the hill to keep people from sledding into the lake.  This wouldn’t be much of a problem anyway considering the length of the hill and the fact that its not terribly steep.

To go to Art Hill simply enter the following address into your GPS system:

1 Fine Arts Dr

St Louis, MO

63110

or:

Take Skinker North from Highway 40

Turn Right on Lagoon (At Skinker and Forsyth)

Continue on Lagoon past the Gold Course

At the Fork in the Road Stay Right as Lagoon Turns Into Fine Arts Dr.

Forest Park is one of the best urban parks in the nation rivaling great parks in much bigger cities such as Lincoln Park in Chicago or Central Park in New York.  Art Hill is just another of its great amenities to go along with all the cultural attractions that are constantly taking place within its boundaries.  Its a testament to the administrators of the park that they go out of their way to make Art Hill a safe and fun place for all on snowy days.   Some of the best neighborhoods in St. Louis surround Aft Hill and Forest Park.  So if you happen to be there on a snowy day make sure that sample some of what the neighborhoods have to offer rather than running straight home.  Stop in one of the restaurants or coffee houses to get something to warm you up after a cold day of sledding.  The closest and most accessible neighborhoods border the park on all sides and these include Clayton on the West, Debaliviere on the North, Central West End on the East, and Dogtown on the South.  Each neighborhood has a unique vibe to it and all 4 are great areas.  So when you visit Art or Forest Park make sure to hit some of these neighborhoods too!  Check out my featured neighborhoods on the navigation bar of the website for more info about the neighborhoods.
